Cut Printing Costs, Not Jobs

Today’s unpredictable economic climate has forced executives at businesses of all sizes to focus on core strengths and critical priorities. To a large extent, strategic investments and growth objectives have been -- at least temporarily -- replaced by cost containment, budget cuts and reduced head count. Staff reductions invariably lead to lost productivity, strained resources and less capacity to serve customers. The bottom line is in an economic recession, cost-cutting is required in order to survive and ensure the future of many companies, but there are other steps that can be taken to reduce costs without cutting jobs.

Printing: Why Waste $100,000 Or More Per Year?

There have been many times in history when new and “disruptive” technologies have enabled both significant cost savings and productivity increases. Examples range from the first copiers to the PC, email, broadband Internet bandwidth and the Blackberry, to name a few. Production cut-sheet inkjet printing is another example of game-changing breakthrough technologies, because it enables major cost reductions while simultaneously delivering significant increases in speed, reliability, and sustainability. In fact, when compared to traditional toner-based electrophotographic printers and MFPs, production inkjet printers can cost half as much to own and operate while producing high-quality output at twice the speed.

Depending on printing volumes, converting a single toner-based printing or copying device to a full-color production inkjet printer can save between $10,000 and $30,000 a year. For companies with four or more printers, this can add up to $100,000 or more in annual savings. While these savings alone could translate into jobs, the improved performance and increased speeds help to improve productivity and efficiency of a company’s in-house staff.

"There have been many times in history when new and 'disruptive' technologies have enabled both significant cost savings and productivity increases."

These printers are radically different from the disposable technologies used on desktop inkjet printers common to home and office environments. Production cut-sheet inkjet printers are truly a new breed of printer with full-color printing speeds up to 150 ppm and duty cycles of 500,000 per month. Production inkjet uses industrial grade inkjet print heads, robust paper transports and powerful networked controller technologies with the horse power to produce the latest variable data printing applications.

Insourcing: Reduce DSO, Take Control, Save Money

Mailing schedules for invoices, statements ments and bills is critical to cash flow. Production cut-sheet inkjet printers create complex, full-color transactional documents with transpromotional messages for two to three cents per page or less. Transpromotional documents have been proven to decrease Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) while increasing response rates, ROI, and customer satisfaction. In addition, since there is no heat to degrade components and less moving parts, production inkjet printers are significantly more reliable than toner-based printers.

Printing reports, presentations, flyers, inserts, promotional and other sales communications in-house not only gives you more control and protects confidential information, but it also reduces printing costs and saves transportation time to and from outside print shops, allowing you to potentially maintain or even increase your staffing levels. Since production cut-sheet inkjet printers can print on a wide range of media including standard paper stocks, envelopes and card stocks up to 210 lb. index, a wide range of applications such as direct mail, variable data transactional and transpromo, booklets and manuals, general office communications and value-oriented marketing can be produced in full color for less.

Efficiency: Go Green & Save Money

Implementing green initiatives today usually costs money. However, unlike toner-based printers that use heat to fuse toner to paper, production cut-sheet inkjet printers use no heat and far less electricity. In addition to being ENERGY STAR qualified printers, a study from Buyers Laboratory Inc. proved that production cut-sheet inkjet printers consume up to 95 percent less energy than toner-based printing equipment resulting in considerably lower energy consumption and costs. There are many more benefits from this heatless process that translate into cost savings and increased efficiency, including no requirement for special electrical facilities wiring and no need for additional office air conditioning and cooling.

Making Business History

Historically, a select few disruptive technologies have delivered incredible increases in productivity and cost savings. Production cut-sheet inkjet printing is destined to join the ranks of major breakthrough technologies that have delivered exponential business benefits. Every company can leverage these benefits today to increase productivity while saving money -- and potentially jobs.
